Snowy Weekend Recap

Snowy Weekend Recap – Scripture, Snow, Potatoes and Books!

Hello!  It has been a few days and hectic they have been.  Filled with children laughing, crying and helping mommy practice patience.  At the end of the day when I lay them into their cribs and tuck them in their beds the day seems to evaporate and I just fall more in love with them!  Kisses and hugs as sleep takes over and night falls.  Rest.  That seems to be the thing our family needs most these days.  Maybe it’s the snowy cold weather?

I read Psalm 32 over the weekend and a couple of scriptures really stood out.  In reading the commentary in my NIV bible about the Psalm it stated: Psalm 32, a psalm of David, couples thanksgiving with instruction encouraging the reader not to resist God’s guidance but to trust fully in Him.

Psalm 32:5 NLT

…I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.  And you forgave me!  All my guilt is gone.

Oh how I hate guilt.  To know that the guilt is washed away when I repent and am forgiven gives me freedom!  The commentary says: The affirmation in verse 5 that God “forgave” David’s guilt is expressed in Hebrew as the lifting away or bearing of that guilt.  Ultimately, God’s lifting up or bearing our sin and guilt was accomplished by Jesus on the cross.  Reading this in the commentary gave me the visual of Jesus bearing my sin on the cross and it reminded me that I am forgiven.

Psalm 32:8 NLT

The Lord says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.  I will advise you and watch over you.

This is a notecard scripture for me!  I need guidance and to know that God is guiding me, advising me and watching over me makes me feel safe, secure, and protected!

Today it snowed buckets and V played in the snow with daddy followed by some hot cocoa and giggling over marshmallows.  It was precious to hear them talk as I was preparing dinner.

A quick and easy side dish that is a weekly staple in our house is roasted potatoes.  Super easy to make so I thought I would share.

Roasted Potatoes

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

In a bowl combine:

5-6 cups of potatoes diced (I use red skin or yellow potatoes)

Few tablespoons Olive Oil

Rosemary (I used dried but in season I like to grow rosemary and use it fresh)

Parsley (I used dried but in season I like to grow parsley and use it fresh)

Salt & Pepper to taste

Mix together then place on a non-stick pan.  Sometimes I spray the pan with a non-stick spray so the potatoes do not stick at all.  The pans I am currently using don’t require non-stick spray but they are newer so that might be why.

Place pan in the oven.  Cook for about 40 minutes or until desired crispness.  Turn potatoes half way through.

Take out and enjoy!

Books and the Next Post:

Yummy Overnight Oatmeal.  The house smells of cinnamon when I get up and this warm breakfast is perfect for a chilly winter morning.  I want to have an after picture to show you so I will have this recipe up tomorrow.

Loving Your Kids on Purpose by Danny Silk.  This book has been a lifesaver lately.  With a joyful, strong-willed 4-year-old and two toddlers I am getting some extremely helpful information!

I was lead to the book Desiring God by John Piper through Ann Voskamp author of One Thousand Gifts and the blog A Holy Experience.  She quotes the book many times in her blog and so I picked it up at the bookstore.  I am excited to start reading it and sharing from it.

From back cover:

Satisfaction…Happiness…Joy.  According to John Piper, the pursuit of pleasure in God is not only permissible, it’s essential.

Piper beckons us to approach God with the hedonist’s abandon.  Finally, we are freed to enjoy Jesus – not only as our Lord and Savior, but also as our all-surpassing, soul satisfying Treasure.
