Love is…

on February 13, 2012

I have been meaning to get on here so many times since my last post but every spare moment when the kids are napping during the day or sleeping at night I have turned to the sewing machine!  I absolutely love it and have my first two projects completed.  More details and pics in the next post!  I made a deal with myself this week I would blog more and finish the scarf for my brother…but oh I can’t wait to get back to the sewing!

Now on to Love…  I wanted to share a scripture that keeps playing over in my head.  I have had it on my mind to use on the here and while it has been in my head I keep forgetting to look up the exact scripture reference.  This past week I found part of the scripture on a Valentine card my daughter received at a party and this morning I was reading on the treadmill and the scripture was in the devotional.  The exact scripture reference was listed so I got out my bible this afternoon and looked it up.   I thought since it has been on my mind and I read it this morning that was a nudge from God to get me on here and type this out…and very timely for Valentine’s Day!

The cute Valentine my daughter got this past week…I put it on our fridge knowing that it had been in my mind for a while and for some reason it made it into her stash from the party!

We have this cross in our kitchen and I love the scripture on it.  It has moved with us from Michigan, to Arizona, to Colorado, Florida and now back to Michigan.  We got it around the time we were married and I can’t remember if we got it as a gift or if it was something I just purchased, but anyway I love it.  This past week the true meaning of its words resonated with me.  The NIV version on the cross is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13 and below is the NLT version.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8, 13 NLT

Love is patient and kind.  Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.  Love does not demand its own way.  Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.  It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.  There are three things that will endure – faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love.

Love is patient and kind…even when the kids are screaming and the man of the house forgot to take out the garbage.

Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude…even when you think someone has it better than you or the lady cuts you off while you are driving.

Love is not irritable and keeps no record of when it has been wronged…even when you are tired, and you think you have the short end of the deal.

Love is never glad when there is injustice…even if you think they deserved it.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance…even when you feel like life is falling apart and you don’t know how it could get better.

Love is all these things and when really thought about I can apply it to my life everyday in most moments.  This scripture when applied to my life as a wife, mom, daughter, sister, and friend reminds me how “to be”.  In busy days of life tiredness, impatience, condemnation, envy, and a bunch of other ickyness can creep in and before I know it I am being everything but what is listed above.  In all things I need to be patient and kind.  Patient with my little ones and my husband, not demanding my own way, not being irritable no matter how tired I am, and not keeping a record of how much I have done.   Never giving up on my relationships with my kids, my husband, my family and my friends.  Never losing faith, always being hopeful and enduring every circumstance knowing the good Lord will bring me through this wonderful journey called life victoriously.  I need to remember in every moment of every day what Love truly is.

So, with all the chocolate, balloons and flowers that will be given tomorrow I pray that all will remember what Love is…

Before I go a few links that are so good!
