This time of year is so fun…Christmas!!! I loved decorating the tree this year with the girls. They were really into it and Vivian had fun putting the ornaments on and then Sylvie and Amelia enjoyed taking them off. Getting the lights to work is another story but in the end it’s up, decorated and shiny! I did try to take a moment when we unwrapped the special ornaments to show them to Vivian and explain when we got it. That was a fun trip down memory lane…two from our wedding, her baby’s first Christmas, and then I realized I have yet to get the twins (who are two) and Axel their baby’s first Christmas ornaments!
We have our list of gifts to buy and give for family and friends, but in it all I want to make sure we don’t lose sight of what this holiday is about. I have come across two wonderful blogs that grabbed my attention.
The first is from Fancy Little Things, they are doing a daily Christmas Devotional. The devotional is so good and leaves you pondering what you just read. The first day was about divine interruption, the second day was about when the angel went to Mary and told her she was highly favored.
The second is an article on not opening gifts but giving gifts from A Holy Experience. As the kids get older this might be something we can incorporate into our holiday. I love to see the faces of my kids when opening their gifts but I also want to show them how we can give gifts to others. Gifts that would benefit them more than any toy would benefit us!
Vivian and I discussed giving the gifts the girls would get each other to Toys for Tots this year so kids that may not get gifts could open one on Christmas. She liked the idea so I researched a drop off location in our area and learned that we can drop off toys at any Babies R Us or Toys R Us.
Found fun games for the kids to play with gift bows. Going to try these out this week…I will let you know how they liked it!
