Cool Baby Things

Hey there…I had some computer issues but all is good now so let’s get this post going!

A teething baby, eating real food baby, drinking out of a sippy cup baby!  I am so sad my little boy is checking off all the milestones a little too quick for this mama!

In the past few weeks I have come across some really neat “new” baby products that I have to share.

The first is this little spoon you screw onto the end of these baby food pouches.  They are perfect for when I am out of the house and Axel needs to eat a meal.  Super easy, easy clean up and less mess.  Two come in a package and I picked it up at the local grocery store.

The second is this little gadget called a “first spoon”.  The baby can put it in their food and it helps them to get the hang of using a spoon.  It is perfect for Axel while he is teething, he loves to knaw and chew on it while in his highchair.

The third is this Baltic Amber teething necklace.  No the baby does not chew on the necklace, instead they wear it under their clothing so the amber beads touch the babies skin.  The healing properties of the amber resin gets absorbed into the babies skin, which helps with all the inflammation and discomfort that comes with teething.  I found this question and answer page from Teething SOS that does a great job on explaining the necklace.  You can see Axel with the necklace on in the first picture.

Well off to get the kids up from naps…have a wonderful rest of the day!

13 Things Update…

So the 13 Things is under way!

1. I have my new journal and cool pen.

2. I have been keeping my journal of One Thousand Gifts.  I did this last year and wanted to keep going, it was such an eye opening experience.  Here you can print a year’s worth of Joy Dare prompts given by Ann Voskamp (see link at bottom of her webpage).

3. Do What You Can by Holley Gerth is on my book list for the year.

4. I am giving myself some time by taking a weekly yoga class, will see how it goes.  It’s a mommy and me class for Axel and I…not sure how it will work as he rolls across the room but I am up for trying it.

5. Refreshing my soul as I take part in Beth Moore’s Siesta Scripture Memory Team.  Every two weeks you pick a scripture you are going to memorize…so two each month.  I tried this two years ago but fizzled out about 4 months in…this year I am determined to finish!  It was such a neat experience in the months that I did do it.  I read this today by Ann Voskamp and it made me realize I really want to do this. She says, “What you really know by heart is what your heart really knows — and what you really live.

AND

When I didn’t know which way to turn — turning those pages turned me. The whole year — I learned by heart the heart of God — and He calmed my fearful heart.”

AND

And then there’s Jesus:  Christ’s weapon against Satan in the desert was memorized Scripture. And if you aren’t memorizing Scripture — what IS your weapon against Satan?

6. My walking through something fearful is running a half marathon.  I am in the process of training for it, yes it’s hard, yes I can talk myself out of running in 2 seconds flat but I choose to be challenged and fight through the fear!

7. I love the uncrossing of the arms.  The twins have become pros at crossing their arms and saying in their sweet little voices, “Momma I so mad!”  So just reading number 7 makes me smile plus I know hugging more means being less critical and showing more grace and love!

I still have to work on 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13…

10. A changed heart can lead a changed life brings me to my WORD for the year.  It is GRACE.  Showing GRACE to others, giving GRACE to myself as I go through the day, being thankful for GRACE that others show to my kids, my husband and myself.  Grace in it’s most simplistic form…GRACE = a gift, a favor, the ultimate gift from HIM.

In the Websters Dictionary

disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency

AND

the quality or state of being considerate or thoughtful

Psalm 84:11

For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.

Blessings to you today!

Reading Nook

Over the last three months I have come across so many good articles, websites and books via email, Pinterest and Instagram.  I have been saving them for blog posts and decided to post some of them once a week.  This week I have stumbled upon some interesting things…

This looks like a good business book, Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt.  It looked interesting to me and I thought my husband might like it.  It showed up on our doorstep today I will let you know what he thought.

I bought this yoga book a long while back when I was getting a specialized yoga certification during our time in California.  I picked it up a couple times through the years but decided a good front to cover read was needed.  Living Your Yoga by Judith Hanson Lasater so far is a good read and leaves me thinking.

The book of the moment for me is Where’d You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple.  Book club is reading it this month…I can’t seem to put it down.  I have been doing lots of rocking to sleep, rocking for naps, and rocking in general with a little teething boy so I have been reading it on my Kindle app on my phone.

13 Ways to Make a Fresh Start

2013 image

I came across this list at Chasing Blue Skies where Kristen shares how to get a Fresh Start in 2013.  Well, I love fresh starts so my first thought was to do each of these 13 things and my second thought was to share what happens as I journey through these 13 things.

Here I go, won’t you join me?!

13 Ways to Get a Fresh Start in 2013

1. Buy a new journal with good, stiff pages. Use it.

2. Count and record all the ways God loves you.

3. Invest in “The Do What You Can” Plan ebook by the world’s bona fide best cheerleader, Holley Gerth.

4. Give yourself time. Fresh starts are about quality, not quantity.

5. Refresh your soul.

6. Walk through a fear and do something amazing.

7. Uncross your arms and wrap them around somebody.

8. Buy flowers for yourself.

9. Write a letter, send a card.

10.  See how a changed heart can lead to a changed life.

11. Clean out a closet {oh, how mine is beyond desperate}.

12. Grab your camera or a loved one {or both} and take a walk.

13. Remember God gives unlimited do-overs and gets the final say.

Pick a word.

Happy 2013!
A New Year. A Fresh Start. What will 2013 have in store for us?

Something fun to start the year off…

joy mantle

Pick a word, any word! Last year I picked a word for the year, which was prompted by Ann Voskamp at A Holy Experience. My word was JOY. Ann calls it giving the year a theme or a focus. I like that idea…something to celebrate for the year, something to focus on and be a constant for the whole year as life happens. JOY gave me calm, gave me being present to the moment, and helped me to make Him my focus.

Psalm 126:3 Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in Him, so that I may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

joy bag

Once I picked it, it showed up everywhere! My sister gave me a bag and on the side of it in bold red letters is the word JOY! I found big block letters in red, for our mantle that spell JOY. Emails started showing up with JOY in them more often. Scripture would jump off the page to me containing the word JOY. It ended up being a fun thing throughout the year to find JOY. My son was born in May and he for sure is a JOY of mine. Plus, in the dailies with four small kids that little word brought me back to being present in the moment in the midst of some chaotic moments. Well it’s that time of year again and I will pick a word. I am tossing a few around and catching myself excited to see what word it will be and how it will show up for me this year.

Wishing you JOY today!

Marisa
