Fresh Reads

The snow has me reading, cuddling with the kids, cooking, and gazing out the window at the piles and piles of snow!

Some fresh reads I came across in the few days:

  • Looking for a yoga mat spray…found this quick read with other essential oil uses.
  • 10 Things Fit, Healthy People Do Differently Every Day
  • New Favorite Fitness Website and Fitness App
  • Using these for my winter runs after the last two snow storms!
  • Need a quick yoga practice check out this awesome blog called Yoga By Candace.  She also offers challenges each month which are perfect for beginners, seasoned or advanced yogis.
  • Inspiring story here!
  • Recipe of the day!  I made two batches the first time and just pulled this out of the freezer for dinner!  I am going to add some roasted potatoes with a veggie.

Enjoy and stay warm!

It’s Still January!

I can add in a quick Happy New Year because it’s still January (well it was when I started typing out this post)! Wow the month has flown by and the weather has changed…bbuurr!  We love it and the kids are having a blast playing in the snow.

For our first snow day we made lemonade slushies with the fresh fallen snow.  Then we made a huge snowman and stayed home for three days straight!  It was fun but we were all ready to get out of the house and back to our routine.

Word for the year…this has been a tough one this year because “fear” kept popping up and who wants fear to be their word?!  Then “lean” popped up so I decided to combine them into a phrase my wise friend said to me, Lean into the Fear!  So a few things that have landed in my email box lately are:

Perfect love drives out fear. 1 John 4:18

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

This great quote by Shalane Flanagan, “Don’t let fear decide your future.” This quote made me think of the word fearless.  What if we all lived fearless this year?  Not worrying so much, not stressing so much, deciding to do what excites us before we can talk ourselves out of it.  What is one thing you want to do this year that you have been putting off?  I say be fearless, go out and do it!  I have started a list of things that I want to do…now it’s just deciding which one to tackle first!

I am still sewing over at RisaAnn.com and I have taken a role in the local modern quilt guild.  It is a great group of women that have a love for all things sewing especially modern and unique quilts. Currently in the line-up I have two quilts that are basted and one quilt-as-you-go started.  They are all gifts so once those are done I will be back to making scarves, mini quilts and other fun things for the store.  Life sure gets busy and before we know it days have gone by!

I have been reading a lot lately and I have to share because they are all pretty good.  Either after a long day on the Kindle app or listening to a book on the Audible app  while folding laundry or sewing. Here are the books that I have recently finished or am just finishing up:

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. This was very good, a page turner and it did not disappoint!

Killing Kennedy by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard.  Very good factual history, I was intrigued, interested and finished it very quickly.

Love Life by Rob Lowe.  This is his second book and I have to say I enjoyed them both.  I listened to them on the Audible app and enjoyed the narration and pace of the books.  Some great life lessons, some funny stories, some Hollywood drama and lots of honesty.

The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant.  This was the January book club pick by the same author that wrote The Red Tent.  It was a very easy read and kept my attention for the most part.

Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini. This a great historical fiction and I am enjoying it after reading Killing Kennedy.

Round Robin by Jennifer Chiaverini. I found this book after I looked for Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker. I started this a long time ago and decided to get it in the Audible app so I could finish it faster.  A very quaint, easy read that takes place in a small town and yes there is quilting in the book.

Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult.  I just started this and am really liking it so far.  It is the February book club pick…I will let you know if it continues to be great!

Fitness Favorite

POPSUGAR ACTIVE App…there are many of free videos for 10 minute quick workouts.  Videos include yoga sessions, tabata rounds and even crossfit WODs plus many more.  You can combine three or four videos for a great workout.  I pulled this out the other day to get my body moving and was surprised by how well the videos are done and what great workouts they were.

Wishing you peace and happiness this coming week!

Monday Madness

The Madness

The kids woke up excited for a fun playdate at a new park…who would have thought this would be a highlight to my week before kids…funny how life changes!  It use to be a new outfit or a night out now it’s a park or a fun time at the bookstore.  I wouldn’t change it for the world, even if the park kind of blew up in my face.  With a two year old that wanted to “GO car”.  He decided today was not a day to be at the park while the three girls LOVED being at the park and did not want to leave.  I tried distracting him, feeding him a snack, but he was not having it.  We moved to another area to play and he was ok for a bit and then he kind of lost it and I said ok that’s it, we have to go…now it was three unhappy girls and one happy boy!  Maybe tomorrow will be better for the little man we are heading to the bookstore and there is a train there!

A few blog posts I ran across over the weekend that was nourishment for the mind and soul!

Why We Need Older Mamas Funny when I read this I am smack dab in the middle of being the young mom and the old mom…still have one in diapers, two in preschool and one in 1st grade.  I still have so much to learn but I can empathize with the new mom!  It’s true the saying God brings you through something so you can help someone that goes through it after you.  That is so true for motherhood…we are all in this together!

Children Are Not Check Boxes This one got me because I am such a list maker.  I have a list to go through during the day to keep me organized and motivated.  I need to remember that spending time with my kids is not on the list because I am suppose to just do it…be in their midst, listen to them, take time to sit and cuddle, read books, etc.  When life gets crazy I forget the ease of this and start trying to check of boxes…then I have to stop, breath and realize what is the next thing I need to do to calm the house.  Oh, if I could just remember this each day!

A couple of fun crafts to try in that last week before school starts and everyone is either bouncing off the walls or hanging from the ceiling!

Paper Flowers

3D Gold Fish Bowl

Have a great week!
